Bubbles and cubs
Dotted with ancient, giant baobab trees and boulder-strewn rocky outcrops, Makulu Makete is 4,600 hectares of spectacular African bushveld, which we are lucky enough to call our home. We invite discerning lovers of the bush and its wildlife to experience this magic place.

Our Mission

  • To carry out a "Veld" Rehabilitation Project, to establish an open savannah habitat, as was the case in the early 20th century.
  • To approach a sustainable relationship between predator, prey and habitat with minimum human intervention.
  • To educate, encourage and convince other land stakeholders to follow this practice.
  • To provide an appropriate environment for continuing research on cheetahs.

Our Team

Peter and Jane Peter Philip is the man behind Makulu Makete. He is an ex-mining executive who retired to his native South Africa to pursue his dream of establishing a sustainable wildlife reserve. His passion for the bushveld rubs off on everyone around him. His Australian wife, Jane, is devoted to Makulu Makete and its wildlife. She writes our newsletter, called the "Bush Diary", which is posted on our website every month.

It takes a cohesive team to maintain the natural environment of the reserve: Joseph - building maintenance, Frans - fences, Samuel - roads, Johannes and Lucky - general bush work, Sarah - housekeeping
